If you want to see Karen at her happiest, watch a video that features her drumming.

Her  mother  favored Richard her brother, over her,, total  insanity. When  Karen died and I learned  about it on the  car radio, I had to pull over and  cry.  In 1970, I was  14 and she  was  20, I had  a terrible crush on her [and always  will]. I became  a music  teacher.

The crazy thing is that if you look at pictures and videos of her from the early 70s she had a gorgeous, I would say perfect classic, hourglass figure. She was built like a woman in perfect accord with the creator's design. A tragic loss for us all.

This disorder is usually partly due to feeling they have no control over anything so they control her weight. Trying to please her mom by being perfect.  This is so sad as she had so much talent.  Their mom was very controlling even into the adult life.

If you read the Carpenters books it is very clear that Karen had a lousy doctor who did nothing to help her.   One of Karen's friends Cherry Boone, Daughter of Pat Boone had Anorexia also and she was down to 89 pounds and she is still alive today because she had a great doctor who helped her to beat the disease.  That made all the difference in the world

Watched this again today (9/13/26) this is so heartbreaking.  Such an amazing talent, and a beautiful person.   The saddest story in music history.   You are loved so much Karen.....Rest in Peace Angel.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

I recently learned that Karen Carpenter was a phenomenal drummer. Also, I was always afraid of eating disorders affecting my daughters.
