Suggesting prog rock can go too far is like saying it's possible for black to be too dark. It's kinda the whole point.

For a standup comedian, Rick Wakeman is really bloody good keyboard player.

Wakeman mocked the grandiose absurdity of Tales, but created King Arthur and the Knights of the Round table, which was performed with ice-skating dancers wearing horse costumes.

That was not the moment Prog Rock went too far. It was the moment Prog Rock justified its existence. An absolute masterpiece.

I love this album BECAUSE it is over the top and pushes the boundaries. There’s countless bands that are just fine with reproducing the same kind of music over and over again that doesn’t challenge you. There’s very a few bands that will actually try to be really creative.

TFTO is a wonderful album! It’s not riff heavy, it’s not a headbanger, but it creates an atmosphere unlike any other album 🖖🏾

I was reading Dune when Tales came out and listened to it many times as I read the novel.
All these years later, the worlds of Tales and Dune are bound together in my head

"Too far" is the reason why Vivaldi, Beethoven, Mozart, Mahler or Yes will be remembered. Forever.

Ironically, Rick Wakeman's synthesizer passages on "Tales" are among his best ever. And there's absolutely nothing he can do about it.
