  Here is some info on this concert:  Live Aid was a multi venue concert to raise money for famine relief in Ethiopia. One concert was held at Wembley Stadium in London in front of 75,000 people and the other was held at JFK Stadium in Philadelphia in front of 90,000 people. 13 satellites were used (the Olympics only used 3) to broadcast these concerts all over the world with a global reach of 1.9 billon people. Almost 40% of the world’s population at the time watched this event. Each venue had large screens so that fans could watch the performances at the other stadium as they toggled back and forth between acts.  There were 75 acts. Each act had 20 minutes to perform. There was a monitor set up at the front of the stage that had red, yellow and green lights on it. Every band was told that when the yellow and red lights were on to wind down their performance. When the light turned to only the red one the sound would be cut off and lights would go up.  Bands were told to play their hits and to consider this a global jukebox. Many bands did not pay attention to this.  Most bands did not even practice. Queen agreed to play at the event after all tickets were sold so the audience were not necessarily Queen fans. They had heard rumors that Queen may be there but no one was sure until they were announced. This got the crowd going as they ran onto the stage.  The sound on stage was atrocious. The band couldn’t hear themselves or each other. Luckily, they had practiced for 3 days leading up to the concert so they went by body signals and memory.  Freddie Mercury had a bad throat infection and was told by his doctors not to perform or he could permanently damage his voice. If you watch when Freddie is waiting to end the performance just after he brings his arm down to end it the light on the monitor goes red and lights go up. Roger Taylor (the drummer) kept the band to within a few seconds which is extremely hard to do in a live performance for 1 song much less 7.  These guys are all professionals. Freddie’s long sustained note in his call and response is now called The Note Heard Round the World.  During Radio Ga Ga all the bands backstage realized Queen was stealing the show.  This is considered the best live performance ever. This is a concert event likely to never be accomplished again.

  You recognize Freddie because he&apos;s known as a legend. Thr best singer ever!!!<br>Queen songs are everywhere. &nbsp;In tv shows, movies all over the radio.

  Here is some info about the band as well. They are fascinating! &nbsp;Queen was formed in 1970 by Freddie Mercury, Brian May and Roger Taylor. After going through a few bass players John Deacon joined them at the beginning of 1971. They were together until Freddie’s death in 1991. Freddie, Roger and Brian had solo careers as well. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and they are the first and I believe only to be inducted into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame as a band. They are the only band that each band member wrote at least 1 number 1 hit. Their motto: If it’s worth doing it’s worth overdoing. <br>From their beginning they did things differently than other bands. They practiced for months and would only perform in front of family and friends instead of playing pubs and clubs so that they could get their performance and stage act the way they wanted it. They were professional and perfectionists even from the start. They were very involved with all aspects of the business including their lighting, stage look, production, management, album cover design and stage clothes. They had the first moving lighting rig (looked like a crown) and other innovative lighting techniques that other bands would copy. After they split from their management company they managed themselves (along with their attorney Jim Beach) and John Deacon oversaw their financials. They would not do anything unless John gave the ok. They were co-producers on almost all their albums. They were virtuosos and their harmonies with Freddie&apos;s powerful, clear, crisp vocal, Brian&apos;s warm, soft vocal and Roger&apos;s raspy high falsetto vocal made any song feel bigger. None of the guys were vocally trained. Brian took piano lessons for 2 years as a child and Freddie was classically trained on the piano and achieved grade 4 as a child but can’t really read music. Outside of this none of them were trained on any instruments. They were self taught. <br>They were the first rock band to perform at stadiums in South America and behind the Iron Curtain. <br>They are the only British rock band to end their concerts playing their National Anthem, God Save the Queen. <br>They have the longest running fan club. It started in 1973. This made the Guiness Book of World Records. <br>I believe they are the only band to audition and train their own tribute band called Queen Extravaganza. <br>Queen’s Greatest Hits is the first British album to spend 1000 weeks in the top 100 on the Official Albums Chart. It is also the best selling album of all time in Britain selling more than 7 million albums<br>. <br>Freddie Mercury: &nbsp; <br>Lead vocalist, songwriter, composer, record producer and plays piano. &nbsp;He can also play guitar and keyboards. He had a 4 octave vocal range and according to a scientific study had a voice unlike any other in rock and roll history in part due to his extremely fast, irregular vibrato and use of subharmonics. He had perfect pitch. He graduated with a diploma in graphic design and designed the band’s logo. He also studied fashion design. He is arguably the best frontman ever in rock. By all accounts he was a shy, kind and generous person. He could get on a stage and hold 500,000 people in the palm of his hand but he couldn’t walk into a room full of people without someone with him. His real personality was quite different than his stage persona. Freddie passed away in 1991. <br> <br>Dr. Sir Brian May: <br>Lead guitarist, backing/lead vocals, songwriter, record producer. He can also play bass, keyboards, piano, harp, synthesizer and banjolele. He was knighted in 2023. &nbsp;Brian has a PhD in Astrophysics and collaborated with NASA on their New Horizons Pluto mission and he has an asteroid named in his honor. He has an IQ of 181. Brian was Chancellor of Liverpool John Moores University and is also a leading authority on stereoscopic (3D) photography. He is also an animal rights activist and has his own animal rights group called Save Me. He bought 157 acres and called it May’s Wood where he planted over 100,000 trees and plants and is a safe haven for animals to live. When Brian was 16 he and his father made his electric guitar out of items they had around the house. They even made some of the tools they used to make the guitar. &nbsp;The neck of the guitar is hand carved from an 18th century fireplace mantle, the body from an oak table, mother of pearl buttons were used for the fret markers and the tremolo bar made from bike parts and his mother’s knitting needle. It is called the Red Special and 60 years later it is still Brian’s main guitar. His guitar has a sound like no other. He uses a sixpence as a plectrum and prefers those made before 1950 as they were made with a higher nickel content and were softer. <br> <br>Roger Taylor: <br> Drummer, backing/lead vocals, songwriter, record producer. He also plays guitar, bass, piano, keyboards and synthesizer. He has a falsetto vocal range which earned him the nickname, the Dog Whistle by his bandmates. He has a 4 octave vocal range and can sing a falsetto in the 5th octave. &nbsp;He went to school to become a Dentist and got bored with it and got a degree in Biology obtaining a BSc. He has a unique sound playing drums and was chosen as the 8th greatest drummer in classic rock in a listener poll conducted by Planet Rock.<br> <br>John Deacon: <br>Bassist, songwriter, record producer and would oversee the band’s financials. He also played double bass, rhythm guitar, piano, keyboards, drums and synthesizer. He earned a First Class Honours degree in Electronic Engineering (while playing in Queen). He made an amp called the Deacy Amp from a speaker cabinet and parts he found in the trash. He used it for a while and then gave it to Brian to use which enabled Brian’s guitar to sound like different orchestral instruments. Brian hired experts to duplicate it but no one was ever able to make one to sound like Deacon’s amp.

  It never gets old watching young people react to this and realize the iconic songs they&apos;ve heard over and over at sporting events, movies, and commercials are Queen songs. &nbsp;Everyone knows Queen. &nbsp;They just don&apos;t know that they know Queen. Best live band ever! &nbsp;Thanks for the reaction!

  I&apos;m another voice saying do &apos;Somebody to Love&apos; live in Montreal 1981. You will see just how good each member of this band is. As far as I know, they never used backing singers, the backing harmonies you hear are Brian May (lead guitar) and Roger Taylor (drummer) when they perform live. John Deacon (bass guitar) very rarely sings. Anything live by Queen is well worth a watch.

  Freddie was a HUGE Elvis fan and he wrote Crazy Little Thi g Called Love in 1979 as a tribute to Elvis who dies 2 years earlier.
