I'm new to painting mini's, close to 2 months now and I've felt stuck for the past two weeks because i could never understand how layering works even after watching videos on "How to do it". I keep feeling unsatisfied with my experiments and end up painting in a flat color.
But your more in depth discussion on Layering and Glazing helped so much! I tested it again and feel like I figured something out, like a proper step in the right direction! Thanks so much for this!!

I really appreciate how you explain these two methods and techniques on scale model miniatures.
I'm 65, been building and painting scale models ( mostly historical military era's ) on and off since I was a teen.
I've read countless instructional books and they are all well and fine but many leave us to fill in the blanks that go absent and unanswered even with the step by step photo's and leave us with more questions than answers
I find your videos to have everything that literary books have, but more importantly also have everything thats been absent and left out. Videos are so much more defined because we actually see the techniques physically done, and your explanations and instruction are very thorough, making your approach very easy to follow and really understand what your doing
Thank You for sharing your experience and knowledge. It inspires and motivates ππ

The topic is sooo important! Thanks for highlighting that there is also something in between (not only layers and glazes)

I am loving your videos! I wish you had new ones. Where did you go, Khan?

Operating on the viscosity spectrum. From heavy body paint down to barely tinted water (assuming we are talking acrylics). During the transition from one side to the other, we have stops at different viscosities. Out of the bottle (changes bottle to bottle, even with the same manufacturer). Next would be "air brush ready" paints. This is a pretty good starting point for putting paint on a model. Down a little more and we have thin enough for an air brush. This is also a good place for layering consistency. Keep going down and you get to shading. Down some more and we get to glazing. Beyond this point we get into time commitment issues where the paint is so thin, your returns per brush stroke are minimal. Beyond that, you have brush water. Don't drink it.

I really appreciate this style of video, it feels more like an in depth discussion with the viewer rather than a lesson where you are told "You need to do it like this."

Top notch!

This rules. Really really enjoy it. Hope to pop on the patreon at some point to give you guys some support. Any plans to do merch at any point? Would be happy to support in that way too.

Came for some counsel. I think my main issue is my glaze is not thin enough and then I ruin all the work done previously

Your minis look great and you have a really cool contrasty style! Killer production value videos too, I've enjoyed your backlog.

One suggestion: can you show longer example painting clips? It's hard to learn from short clips. For example, with the figure at 6:54 β can we see the progression of layers as they are applied to the thigh? Just a second or two of each layer and maybe show the paint consistency for the highlight layers. PiP your video into the corner if it feels like too long spent on one shot. :)

If patreon makes building your channel more sustainable, do it! Some reward ideas that I find compelling: 1) longer unedited videos of you painting, with commentary or not. 2) coaching for 30 minutes or an hour a couple times a month. Seems like it could be real income for you and also fertile soil for video ideas.
