  Being told “I can’t sell you” after our people being sold all over the world is such a symbol of the black experience. We’re useful when our identities are trendy then we’re dumped like trash when they find a new trend and it just goes on and on. It will never end.

  It takes so much strength for a child to overcome societal obstacles like racism, misogyny, classism AND to overcome the home abuse, religious trauma, isolation. Grace had to be strong or die from birth. What in incredible woman. ❤

  I can remember as a teen catching the Metro and guys from the back of the bus shouting ...."Graaaace Jooooones" as I entered the bus.  I was tall, lanky and sooo shy. Grace had such a bold and commanding presence and personality ...so opposite mine.  After I matured I realized what a huge compliment that was!!!❤

  She has been my idol for ever. Once I meet her in IBIZA town, by accident, in the street of Ibiza. I walked behind her, then i overtook her, on the pavement. while i overtook her, something made me turn my head. It could have been the hat she was wearing or the voice that I seemed to have recognised. I looked at her and screamed with excitement 'O.M.G.! its Grace Jones' She replied instantly, as much as vigour and excitement than me, while raising her hands high to the sky, with her beautiful rawnchy voice 'YES ITS ME DARLING' I honestly didn't know where to put myself. I just met my idol like I met my god. I will remember this forever.
