  I was four years old when I learned about the benefits of a strong building material being used to construct a home. It was a story called The Three Little Pigs. It may be worth a look.

  In Europe a house is not considered old until it is at least 300 years old and anything under 50 is considered fairly modern

  My local Pub is older than your Country.  The California wild fires are a prime example of poor building techniques.  The only houses that survived were brick built.

  About 40 years ago, whenever the news reported that hundreds of people in the USA had once again been left homeless because of a hurricane, my grandfather would always say: &quot;If you want to live in a hurricane zone, you shouldn&apos;t live in a tent...&quot;

  The worst part is that prices are as high, if not higher, in America to build a cardboard house than in Europe to build a stone house...

  I&apos;m Italian and live in a 423-year-old house. <br>Last year, I had to renovate it to comply with the new European building regulations and bring it up to Class AAA. <br>This work increased the insulation (this reducing heat loss and maintaining a warmer temperature in the summer, although this doesn&apos;t apply to my house, which, being very old, has VERY thick walls). It also improved airflow in all the rooms in the building and energy efficiency thanks to the addition of photovoltaic panels and a new boiler that reduces consumption. <br>For me, seeing that you Americans live in houses without foundations, made of wood, is something of a shock.

  Where I live you couldn&apos;t get a mortgage for a wooden house because it&apos;s considered a &quot;temporary structure&quot;.
