It's great to see examples of more people who do small games in a professional capacity. Most people think we have to spend years building a game and make big money instead of just doing something that is well known to not be nearly as risky.

I've been watching you for a while - but I have to admit it's great to see your last few interviews are focused on the interviewee as opposed to bringing in your own project every few minutes. Great new format!

I watched Birkett's gdc talk about "11 years without a hit" when it came out, I'm so happy this still works for him and that he survived the indiepocalypse! Such an inspiration and I wish him all the best!

I'm only a little ways into the video but as someone who's been around in games well over a decade now I can say for myself that Jake is absolutely one of the best around.

Hey Thomas, great interview. If you do read this, the reason you're having a hard time wrapping your head around the concept of BlitzMax being an engine, is because you're misinterpreting the Unity/Unreal/Godot Editor as the engine, when it's not. The editor is just the GUI that helps with visually interfacing with the underlining code/APIs that is the engine. Outside of configuration stuff, you could build and entire game just in code, but at a steeper learning curve of course.
