  Most people down stream knew it was coming just watch how many people are waiting for it and filming . What they didn't expect is how powerful it was.

  Most people do not live close to the river but higher up the slope where they have their farm. Only near river crossings we see little villages. Yes many died but for nature this was just a little event.

  I dont understand. The 2015 fall was nowhere near as destructive and far reaching as this. Where did all that volume of water and debris, rock dust come from? That was absolutely huge!

  Two corrections clarifications:<br>The flood warning system along the Lhende Khole tributary valley was jointly developed and operated by Chinese AND Nepali scientists and authorities. They shared the same flood warning infrastructure. Both countries were caught by surprise up to the last minute. The Chinese authorities did not have any or much earlier notice than the Nepalis did. The fact that no alarms were raised at Gyirong Port itself is clear evidence of this. <br><br>The viral drone footage of the collapse was filmed by a Chinese tourist and travel photographer using the social media handle Hei Mu - not &nbsp;the Chinese radar station itself. <br><br>Hei Mu was at a scenic spot on the Chinese side of the border (near a mountaintop radar station in Tibet) doing a routine aerial drone shoot of the mountain scenery. He did not realize he had captured the collapse—which occurred miles away on the north face of Mount Langtang Lirung in Nepal—until reviewing the footage later. It was a failure of the design of the &nbsp;alarm system itself. &nbsp;They will need a more robust design and better sensors like the acoustic flow sensors &nbsp;you talk about.

  There were signs big enough to show on satellite. <br><br> I would bet someone knew. Someone warned somebody. Somebody didn&apos;t listen. Wouldn&apos;t surprise me if they are dead too. <br><br> They knew the permafrost was melting. They knew the weather is warming. They knew it was a record season. They live in a valley. <br><br> Geologists were measuring the pace of the glacier at 10mm per month. <br><br> The land doesn&apos;t just give out like that. There are signs. Any communities living in sight of hazards should&apos;ve had people out there monitoring all this stuff closely. <br><br> They aren&apos;t some rag tag villages anymore. It&apos;s 2026. You are civilized so act it. <br><br> Goes for my country too. People want to hire, and pay scientists or professionals then not listen to the warnings. <br><br> I hope nobody gets blamed. Let it be a lesson to the power of the dirt, and mud. Be thankful it wasn&apos;t a tidal wave of molasses or sewage, and it&apos;s coming hard enough to crush ya instantly. If the water doesn&apos;t. The city in it will. <br><br> Hope someone survived. That would be insane. You never know. Always fight till you die, because life has a sense of humor. It&apos;s ironic I&apos;m alive at this point. <br><br> ... Dying in a valley via gravity channeling something at ya isn&apos;t ironic. It&apos;s fate if you live long enough.
