  Just starting the video, but it’s kind of sweet to imagine a poor family saving up to buy a small luxury for a parent or grandparent’s birthday, even as small as some extra egg. As long as it was totally willing, of course.

  Having to get up so early on your own birthday sounds awful XD It really shows how much these people might have lived in the lap of luxury, but their lives were also incredibly restricted. Not even the emperor or empress could move freely or do things just because they wanted to!

  Dowager empress Cixi seems to be at the center of almost every single late Qing Dynasty issue. This, her giving her eunuchs too much power leading to corruption, her ousting the co- dowager empress, her flip-flopping on reforms that were sorely needed. <br><br><br>If China was prosperous, most of her controversies could have been forgiven. But the dynasty was failing, and the world was entering a new age. She wasn’t who the country needed, especially as she was one of the main government figures for such a long time. Part of me wonders if the dynasty would’ve lasted a few more years if she had stayed low-key and conservative with her spending and public actions.

  I&apos;d love a more in depth video on Cixi and the late Qing Dynasty. I didn&apos;t realize how little I knew about that era until you started talking about her!
