I worked with a young international student, she took to me because I was kind to her compared to the rest of the staff. She pleaded with me to help her. She was in a PSW program and needed $8500 dollars for her second year. We were working part-time for minimum. I tried helping her find another job, but I ended up leaving that workplace.<br><br>So 2 things: 1) the PSW program at that college is 1 year, and she was told it's 2 for international students; 2) the 1 year program for domestic students is $3000.<br><br>I am a Canadian citizen who cannot get work. I just want better for all. This is disgusting.

It makes me angry that the ones who were lucky enough to study and eventually live in Canada would turn around and start a company that fully takes advantage of someone who wants the Canadian Dream as well. Completely heartless ❗

The UK faced the same situation about a decade ago, which resulted in the closing down of all colleges that were there only to provide visas to international students.

This doc was 2 years ago and the mood among Canadians has changed...also, it fails to mention that these "students", taking such programs as business admin and hospitality management, were never interested in a career in these fields, just as an easy pathway to permanent residency.

As a university educator, this has been going on for years. Education has become commoditized. It is taking its toll on educators as well.

There is no incentive to stop this because the universities and colleges are banking a fortune on these Indian students. Not only education institutions but landlords and local businesses take advantage of the situation by overcharging and exploiting them for very low wages. it's become a big problem and it needs to be addressed more.
