For a moment I thought PR meant permanent residency. That's a major underlying factor why International students are attracted to Australian universities.

I was a full fee paying international student at Uni in Australia in the early 90’s. After graduating I returned home to Southeast Asia, as did all my my friends I had made from all over Asia. We all went back home to our respective countries. We enjoyed our stay in Australia and some of us even end up marrying the boyfriends or girlfriends we met from the same Uni back in our respective countries. These are found memories we, the vast majority of us overseas international students, will always treasure for the rest of our lives. I dare say it was the best years of my life. We go back to our home countries and we act as Ambassadors for Australia because of the fond memories we have experienced while studying in Australia. I’m in my mid 50’s now with my own family. My sons have just finished high school. I will, without hesitation, be more then happy to send my kids back to Australia for Uni and possibly back to the same Uni I had graduated from. This is provided Australia still welcomes international students from Asia.

As a former international student who actually completed degrees and understands Australian law, I support international education, but only with integrity.
Most students follow the rules. The bad actors are dodgy colleges and exploitative employers.
Target them, build housing, and stop turning migrants and students into political scapegoats.

These politicians are so dumb they have spent decades sending manufacturing overseas than say some crap like education is the leading industry in Adelaide. What a clown.

Recent events, including the Bondi attack, have also affected Australia’s reputation as a universally safe destination. While such incidents are isolated, perception matters, especially for prospective international students and their families.

For students from certain regions, safety is now a genuine consideration when weighing whether Australia is worth the risk, particularly when combined with high living costs and housing insecurity.
When you take everything together, rising accommodation costs, expensive tuition, uncertain post-study job outcomes, and now emerging safety concerns, Australia has lost its competitive edge as a destination for international students.

I still remember when I was younger, Uni’s were all FEE FREE for all Australians. Then they started charging for it.

Bring back the good ole days!

The way this world is going, we’re gonna be asked to pay for Oxygen 😅
