Every time I go online, I feel like I'm being manipulated—someone’s always trying to make me click, spend money, or give them a like to feed their need for validation. My silence is my rebellion.

I’m sick to death of advertising being EVERYWHERE, and EVERYTHING requiring an internet connection, and a $15 a month subscription.  New cars, have heated seat subscriptions.  Are you KIDDING ME!?  These executives banking on a 30 million dollar bonus, while the mail room employees can’t afford housing…the greed has lost sight of shore.  They’ve lost touch with accountability because “it’s legal”.  But, Luigi happened for a reason.  I’ve all but unplugged from social media and being a google statistic.  I’m just no longer interested in any of it.

The internet sucks BAD now, scrolling for hours to find absolutely nothing to watch, I tested this by scrolling this week to see if even one interesting video would pop up on YouTube or TikTok and I scrolled and scrolled and scrolled in disbelief that not a single interesting video popped up.

Update: I know many consider YouTube to be social media, and technically it is, but we see the video first and can completely ignore the comments, whereas the likes of Facebook is all about the interaction. So please stop comparing this platform to regular social media. I quit social media and I love it. I’m only 57 seconds into this video but I wanted to jump in to tell anyone who just can’t kick the habit, it’s worth the initial struggle.

Black mirror did this to perfection with an episode about the woman who has part of her diseased brain replaced with what is effectively a streaming service. All is fine until costs go up and functionality goes down and unless the monthly fees are met she spouts advertising at inappropriate moments. AI is the final straw.

I’m so sick of everything needing an app, or having to make an account, or having a subscription fee every month. I remember when you could buy software and apps — yes, pay ONCE and buy it. I’m Gen X, I didn’t grow up with internet, computers or cell phones. As a kid I used to read books, skate in the park, swim, ride my bike, create art. I need to get back to that. I now regret selling/giving away all my CDs. I thought I would never need them again!
