There's a car guy I follow, who once said "Don't Get It Right, Just Get It Running" and I've had that quote spray painted on the door of my shed for a long time to remind me to just get started.

Some things I like to do as a broke student with little time and energy:

• picked up crochet - sooo easy to start off and repetition is what makes you good so getting good doesn't involve much mental work ehich I appreciate. Also after a while you can crochet while watching shows/movies! (You can ask other people for their scrap yarns, check yarn out at thrift stores or just buy cheap yarn, that's totally a-okay)

• sculpting - specifically with air drying clay (update: air drying clay is ass I recommend polymer clay🙏). This one's a new one actually, so far I've only done a figure of a character I really like (eith a simple design) but I also saw someone making charms of their favourite characters and I 100% wanna do that too now. Also excited to paint it once I can get my hands on a brush!

• checking out thrift stores - oughh so addicting and I found such amazing things. Technically not creative work but going there can inspire you to do/make/pick up new things or new styles maybe. Fashion is creativity too after all.

• chilling at the library and discovering what they have - I have a CD player and recently discovered our library has LOTS of CDs, great ones shockingly. It became a hobby of mine to check some out every week (taking my time while I'm there so even the act of checking them out is a pleasure) and listen to them at home. Found some seriously amazing artists among them and artists I've been meaning to check out for so long but never got to. Having to take them back encourages me to look at more while I'm there anyway. They also have a manga collection which I check out a lot. I like having some images to look at after a full day of sociology readings. Also I found out through all this that we have a library of things with super helpful stuff. Dude the library is such a cool place SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL LIBRARIES!!! They order stuff they don't have for you if you ask them to :)

• print out images and stick them around my room. Making use of the nice library printer, hehe

• writing my thoughts out. Not strict journaling but something along those lines. I write whenever I feel like getting something out or when bored. Makes me get good ideas or think abt what I want.

• Draw my POV - I once used to actively practise being good and got rlly good! Then I took part in a variation of Inktober which burnt me out lowkey. Stopped drawing for a looooong while but I got gifted this tiny blank pages notebook. I lovee doodling in there, most of the time the doodles will be shitty doodles of my POV that moment but they carry the memory of that day. Becomes a time capsule of sorts, sick shit. I rlly don't have the energy to get good at drawing again (feels taxing and what I need is to turn my noggin off for a bit) but being bad in a conventional sense doesn't mean you shouldn't make art.

• sewing and embroidery - I'm really not good at either, I do very simple embroidery patterns but I like making patches out of them and putting them onto my clothes. I only really sew Scrunchies rn but the repetetiveness is therapeutic. (I 100% wanna get better during semester break though!) But getting out the sewing mschine and all the tools can be exhaustj g so that one's spared for days I'm not feeling tired.

• writing longggg youtube comments and actually taking my time to think abt what the video said while writing. Actually engagimg eotth videos can be surprisingly fun and sometimes feel like what I write into my journal! This for example would be the sort of list to go in there. I like thinking abt myself when writing in there

I have a lot going on in my life so you can see how my focus really just lies on doing rather than learning, on making it a break. But if I really get into it - like vrocheting back then - I really enjoy honing my skills! When I have the time for it ofc, which I once had for crochet and for drawing and will hopefully one day have for sewing and stitching. Right now I reaaally am into sculpting

My 11yo didn’t even make it half way through this video before you sparked inspiration in him! After weeks of “Muuuummmm what do I make?” this video was a godsend!! Thank you!

The camera is doing exaxtly what you intended. Im so tired of everything perfectly optimized and polished, that seeing something shot in "lower" quality is actually a breath of fresh air. We really didnt need to go past a certain point with LOTS of different tech, and cameras were one of em.

There are two pieces of advice from Ray Bradbury for writers that are similar: Write every day, and DON'T THINK. Just let yourself write and figure it out later. He also challenged people to write a short story every week. Sure, lots of them will be bad, but as he said, "I challenge you to write 52 bad stories. No one can do that. It's never been done."

Thank you. I’m a senior, and it was depressing that my hands shook, drawing was, well, not what it used to be. My husband bought me my 1st iPad Pro. "Dare to dream" was etched on the back. I have an art program, Procreate, and I can get any number of brushes—watercolor, gouache, that behave on any number of canvases. And pencils that behave like the medium that allows me to stabilize my stylus. It has been gratifying and brings me great joy every day.

one thing i’ve started doing recently is making presentations. i’ll pic a random topic im interested in and just start researching facts and putting together collages and images in the presentation. the best part about it for me is that i don’t feel pressured to “finish” them. i just work on them as im interested in them or otherwise it’ll become a sort of chore

i have presentations for my favorite shows where i break down character profiles, the plot, how i would change certain things, all the funny moments i laughed at, any symbolism i notice, etc. it’s really fun and it’s a way to still engage with a piece of media you’ve finished while kind of making it your own. I also keep presentations for lists like my watchlist (i have separate ones for anime, barbie movies, childhood shows, etc) where i leave reviews for every show i watch and same for books i’ve read (also broken down into categories). The goal truly is to just make something of the presentation without it feeling like a school assignment

My contribution! Make a first aid kit for something! What would be in your "Creativity First Aid Kit" or your "Oh No, This Party Is Terrible First Aid Kit"? You can just write it down or actually make it. My "Help! I Want To Sketch!" first aid kit became a little travel kit I take with me all kinds of places. But it doesn't have to be physical! "Help! I'm Lonely!" is the first one I did and it was so useful!
