  15 years ago there was a huge one day drop in the market that quickly reversed. &nbsp;It was all the automated trading algorithms feeding off each other into a huge sell off.<br><br>Markets been bots for well over a decade.

  The desire to “beat the odds” is a temptation as old as human history itself. Different guises, similar impulse. Those who beat the markets buy quality companies and hold them for decades. This is not rocket science. It is simply a willingness to ignore the nonsense peddled daily in financial media, having the humility to accept that no one knows how markets behave day to day, and reminding yourself constantly that you aren’t the first person trying to get rich quickly. Retail traders in the post pandemic era thought they alone had figured out the unpredictability, obscurity and opacity of options trading. Harsh lesson to learn but hopefully the losses suffered by retail traders will remind them to stop playing with fire.
