  It's pretty interesting at how little of this history is taught considering how Muslim incursions into Europe and domination of the Mediterranean affected Europe and world history.

  I am Irish, so I was baptized Roman Catholic, but I have been an atheist since I was 18. I am now 30, and I will say no the Crusades happened in direct response to Islamic aggression over hundreds of years, and the vast majority of the Middle East before Islam was Christian.

  We have a long way to go to undo the indoctrination that secularists have put upon us all in how we view our own history as Christians, so it&apos;s good to see people taking a more honest, nuanced stance on the Crusades!

  I&apos;m a member of the Armenian catholic church (in full comunnion with rome) and I currently live in a German city, in which the cathedral is also named after St. Blaise :D we&apos;re everywhere!

  I&apos;m Portuguese. I was actually extremely shocked when I learned in the anglosphere the crusades are considered bad. It was a literal culture shock. My very own country is a crusading kingdom that helped save the templars making them The Order of Christ. Before the reconquista my people were enslaved, beheaded, flayed alive, boiled alive, and several churches were set on fire with Iberians inside them, killing them. The Reconquista is considered a Crusade by all means. So this whole narrative, for me, can go take a walk.<br><br>Santiago behind me, Portugal and São Jorge in front of me. EIA EIA, A ELES POR SANTIAGO!

  I am a historian, and I wrote both my theses (bachelor and masters) on the Crusades, specifically on my country&apos;s (Hungary) involvement in the Crusades and how that was perceived by people of the time based on the records of the time.   Unfortunately, here in Brazil, the mindset of condemning everything people accuse us of having done, instead of investigating whether the accusation is valid or not, has become really common. to the point where many people seem ashamed of their own religion or act as if the medieval church and the modern church were two completely separate things.
