  I have a friend, who is a drummer and singer, like me. He also plays sax, guitar, bass, keys and percussion, and he writes. But he tends to be one of the inspiration songwriters whereas I learned the craft of songwriting on demand. We were talking several years ago and he told me that he didn&apos;t understand how I could do it, because it took him months to write one or two songs and I wrote one or two songs every day or two and to quote him &quot;They&apos;re GOOD!&quot; . One of the things songwriting on demand taught me was using techniques to CREATE inspiration instead of waiting for it to strike like a lightning bolt and leave just as quickly. It&apos;s a skillset that CAN be developed.

  Again love these. It Seema to me that a song writer is compelled to write songs. That being true then almost anything I hear gets me inspired. &nbsp;what is telling is person will spend hours and maybe days on a song with no guarantee it will get out there but the reward is almost instant. The mental health benefit is enough. &nbsp; I hope you keep getting hits so you can keep giving us tips.

  I need a co-writer who&apos;s been through all that so I don&apos;t have to argue the point all the time over simple stuff. I don&apos;t think or speak in absolutes. Some folks paint themself into corners &nbsp;with the last thing they learned in SongTown and it becomes their gospel. Gotta keep moving.

  What a great way to describe when a bridge is necessary: &quot;When you&apos;ve got a river to cross&quot;.<br><br>I usually write bridges, but you guys are spot on. They aren&apos;t needed for every song. One of the best songs ever written, &quot;Me and Bobby McGee&quot;. Technically, it has a bridge, but that bridge is just &quot;Lah da dah-- da dah dah--- Lah di dah da dah-- Lah di dah da dah da Bobby McGee, yeah...&quot; Etc etc. <br><br>It can be an instrumental. It can be a bunch of nonsense vocalizations. It can be a bridge to cross a seemingly insurmountable chasm. It can be nothing at all. <br><br>Like people, every song is different and has its own path to travel. <br><br>Another example: &quot;Fast Car&quot;. It breaks a lot of &quot;rules&quot;. Verse, Verse, Verse, Pre-chorus, Chorus, Verse, Chorus, Verse, Chorus, Pre-chorus. End of song. One of the greatest pieces of storytelling ever written. It doesn&apos;t need a separate bridge. Conceptually, the entire song is a bridge, leading right back where she started. A requiem for a dream.

  I have written songs by myself only because the inspiration kept flowing so I kept writing and I was going to get a second opinion, but I realized that the song was nearly complete. The ideas were there, but I do prefer collaborating because sometimes the ideas are not within you sometimes somebody else can bring them to you to help it flow.
