It’s taking me forever to go through this presentation because of life commitments, but you, BY FAR, engage far more with the implications of exercise cultures.

Great! I had an inkling that it linked to Jamie's assertions before I started. I Look forward to the discussion between you learned men.

It would be interesting to know how widespread the 19 century masculine crisis was. Was it a middle and upper class thing? The working class were still doing manual labour.

Mechanized warfare is more physically taxing. Machines, kit, and the speed of warfare. Even during static WW1, assaulting a trench there was a long distance to cross before a melee

"And now, for news on the ground, over to our muscle correspondent Dr Conor Heffernan. Conor, just how will the muscle heads take this news?".
"Well Shawn, they won't be pleased about it, that's for sure, and they'll certainly vote with their feet, or with their lunges I might say...".

Self sacrifice IS masculinity. Doing the hard or scary thing so someone else doesn't have to. I love muscle but it is just a tool, sacrifice is the measure of the man

12:30 development of Christianity led to suppression of celebrating the human body. Do you have a basis you can articulate for that premise? Christianity wasn’t based on the Bible because they didn’t have an English language Bible until 1500s and we know King James Version (KJV) was in early 1600s. Christianity was whatever the priests in pulpit said it was usually read in Latin. The Bible available to people in the 1600s or KJV says what about human body? It says gluttony is a sin. Drunkenness is a sin. Laziness or idleness is a sin. Paul actually says that physical training is of some value. But he only dims its importance when comparing it to spiritual training or conditioning. There is a book based almost entirely on the Holy Bible that teaches how to gain self-control so you can overcome gluttony laziness and drunkenness (alcohol is very fattening) and transform your body. The Holy Bible says that Jesus grew in physical stature. It says that King David was ruddy and handsome. It speaks of beauty of Esther the queen who saved the Jews by risking a favor of the king, of whom she was one of many wives. Why is this a rebuke of Christianity? Lust is a sin. Sexual immorality is a sin.

This is a good book. https://a.co/d/07GrfSwf It quotes from the Christian Bible for the support of the author’s instructions on how to develop a strong and perfect body.

Check it out. Let me know what you think of it.

In the animal kingdom humans are pretty mediocre when it comes to raw strength. Evolution prepared us to run 10 km to the nearest farmhouse to raise the alarm for your mate’s broken leg... not deadlift the boulder off him. 😀
BTW, any measure of masculinity has always been linked to stamina and virility. So how does bodybuilding stake a claim to masculinity while often revolving around chemically castrating your testes in pursuit of looking like the Hulk?
