  Great job, personally I would just get a whole new chassis (galv) will save you chasing your tail in the future probably more cost and time effective as well.

  Really great to see. I just got a series 2a in very similar condition  also for £500. It even has the same discovery wheels.

  Most land rover buyers of old models normally break it down to the chassis only as we are aware of the rust that awaits us it’s the only way to go.

  I reinforced the holes for the bumper bolts by cutting off the front squares to insert tubes welded in where the bolts for the bumpers go. Otherwise there is only 2mm of metal around the holes at the top and bottom that takes the force from the bumper. With tubes inserted you can also tighten the bolts properly. Once the tubes are welded in place, weld the squares back on.

  Love this build. My daughter is obsessed with the series landrover as well as the defender. Shes two now and i do want to get one of these one day for the right price and build it together.

  My 1972 Series III came to me from original owners 25 years ago.  What sold me was the galvanized frame they had installed a few years prior.

  Cut off the flaps on the new chassis. Weld some plates internally to old chassis to align the two halves. Butt weld them together grind flat and then make up some 4mm plates to reinforce the join. Those flaps are crap and weak especially now they’ve been bent about.

  Great video. I had a 1962 Mk2A short wheelbase Landy here in Australia in the late 60’s. It was an ex Army communications vehicle and had a canvas top, the 4 speed box with no synchro on first and second gears, no door locks so no keys to lose, no keyed ignition switch and no heater. I took it everywhere, wish I still had it. Awesome garage by the way..

  Easier to Use a flat chisel to slightly open the spring eye and knock the outer bush out. This Vid explains why I used to get so much work rebuilding Land Rovers.
