Fun Fact: When Ken Carter was asked who should play him in the movie, he wrote down one name: Samuel L. Jackson.

19:05 Battle apologizing to coach Carter after his mom talks with him is perhaps one of my favourite scenes because it shows so clearly why these boys need a good male role model in their lives, someone to teach them responsability, how to grow up and be men instead of remaining boys for the rest of their lives and peaking in highschool.

I met the real Ken Carter once. He came to visit my university during my freshman year. I remember he talked about how this wasn’t just about basketball. It was about saving these young men’s lives, and helping them achieve a better future.

YES, wasn't expecting THIS BANGER!!! Growing up we used to quote this movie constantly to each other. I grew up in California and went to college in norcal near Richmond where this movie takes place so this story hits close. Coach Carter has a special place for us basketball players but a great message for everyone: no matter the situation, you can overcome if you have the vision to change your situation and work hard. One of my favorite movies ever, seen it countless times.

33:20 I think this is the moment Damien truly understood just how important his father's coaching job was for these boys who clearly didn't have as many opportunities in life as he did.

This was Channing Tatum's feature film debut. One year later he appeared in Step Up and from there, the sky was the limit for him.

12:04 Cruz's story and character development is one of my favourites because of how layered it is - it's not your typical "tough boy reforms 5 mins into the movie" he leaves the team at the start, comes back, leaves again because of the grades and eventually has his "come to jesus" moment after his cousin is gunned down, realizing coach Carter is the only one who cares about him and wants to save him from a fate similar to his cousin's.

29:10 I really like how coach Carter never gave up on explaining to principal Garrison just how important it is for them, the teachers, to not fail their students by not trying hard enough to teach and help improve their grades.

That scene with the desks in the gym made me cry every time...

Fun fact: Samuel Jackson was just as moved as everyone else at Timo’s speech. And the tears in Coach Carter’s eyes at 36:57 were genuine

14:22 love how the team had Cruz's back, after they saw him put in the effort just to be accepted back in the team. Every single one of these heartfelt moments are earned in this movie.

Parts of the pool scene were not scripted by the way actors were not cleared to be in the pool but they went in anyway and got intoxicated on set. Samuel L Jackson reaction to seeing them in that pool was real.
