  I live in Ocala FL. and have been hit by Irma, and indirectly impacted by Milton, Helene, Ian, Nicole, Idalia, Debby, and more. No town in Florida is safe from the impacts of tropical cyclones.

  I have a horse farm in Ocala and the horse capital of the world is being destroyed by horrible developers and even worse commissioners! They're killing what makes Ocala great! As for hurricanes we still feel them. No town is safe in Florida.

  I've lived in Florida since 1959. Mostly on the coast, but I've visited everywhere.  Biggest drawback for the inland towns, is the suffocating summer heat and humidity! We didn't have a/c when I was a kid. Some Florida towns were a ghost town in July and August! I think if you're in Okechobee in July without a/c, it's a death sentence!

  I used to do Insurance and there’s a lot of places in Florida, who cannot even get insurance on their house.

  I am a Floridian and there are no such towns in FL.  Just go back to years 2004 and 2005 , There was no town that was not affected by the numerous hurricanes we were having.  A town does not have to be hit by a hurricane , just one brushing by can do major damage .  I have seen tropical storms that flooded many towns and caused major damage .

  I grew up in Brevard county and it has been hit by hurricanes over and over. We evacuated when I was a kid because  a hurricane came straight at us.

  I have lived in Florida all my life, Amelia Island to be exact. The last hurricane to cause any damage here was hurricane Dora in 1964. We sit in the big curve that kind makes an eddy, which deflects us from being a direct hit. I have never evacuated the island. I love my town of Fernandina Bch.

  I’ve lived in Ocala for almost 25 years. True, we don’t have very many issues with hurricanes. But there has been a huge influx of people moving into the area and it is becoming over developed and lacks the infrastructure to even begin to keep up with the number of people that currently live there. Traffic on major thoroughfares other than the interstate is horrendous. It often takes 45 minutes to go less than 5 miles. If you are looking for a safe place to live try one of the others on the list please.

  Before choosing to move to Florida, I did a google search for a map of the path of all hurricanes for the past 100 years, figuring topographical variations must keep some areas safter. I chose Inglis/Dunnellon because no hurricane traveled directly over this area. We chose a home in Dunnellon, but have only been here six months.

  Coastal communities can be seriously devastated by hurricanes. Inland away from the Coast, the hurricanes intensity is far less severe. Regardless, expect falling trees on power lines, causing several weeks to repair. Homes constructed of cement blocks fare better, but on the Coast, be prepared for the worse. I've lived here since 1976 and have weathered through many hurricanes. Having a gas-powered generator is mandatory, and stocking up each season with canned and dried food supplies is prudent. Bottle water is critical, and having several 50-gallon barrels at evetroughs will supply you with enough water to flush your toilets. Keep them clean and filled. If your well prepared hurricanes are just an inconvenience but replenish drought conditions that plague our state nearly every year!
