  I MISS THE PARADISE THAT FLORIDA USED TO BE BEFORE ALL THE MANSIONS STARTED BEING BUILT UP EVERYWHERE BLOCKING THE SCENERY FROM THE OCEAN AND CRAZY DRIVERS THAT DON’T GIVE A DAMN ABOUT ANYTHING EXCEPT THEMSELVES

  When man destroys natural waterways and swamps, that opens the door to Mother Nature's fury. Land developers in NC and SC are doing the same with natural waterways, MARSHLAND, and swamps. LESSON - DON'T MESS WITH MOTHER! NATURE!

  The sweet smell of orange blossoms have been replaced by the smell of asphalt and weed. I feel strongly my native home will never recover.

  I'm a third generation Floridian. This state had too many people at least 30 years ago yet they keep building and taking out the wilderness then complain about it when disaster hits. Money talks sadly

  As an old guy born in Florida in the year 19BD (before Disney), I think we have just been overwhelmed. In just one five-year period during the last decade more people moved to Florida than lived here the year I was born. Further, many of our newcomers bought up beachfront property and tore down the cheap little cracker box houses which didn't cost much to replace when a hurricane knocked them down. Others bought property Floridians had more sense than to build on in the first place. Then, they lined the beaches cheek to jowl with McMansions up one coast and down the other (or on canals in reclaimed swampland). Small wonder then there are so many catastrophes when a hurricane or heavy rainstorm comes along. The kicker...everyone's insurance rates get jacked out of sight.

  I always say, "The more Construction, the More Destruction!".  Even the early explorers like, Ponce De Leon said FL was unsuitable for colonization or development.  I'm native born, been thru every hurricane since the late 50s.
