  To help with those new to the sport:<br><br>Forward passes are illegal – the ball must go backwards or sideways when passed. <br> <br>Play continues when tackled – the tackler must release the ball carrier, who must immediately release or play the ball. <br> <br>Offside rule – players must stay behind the ball carrier or the kicker; otherwise they cannot participate. (Offside must run back behind an onside player to return onside to renter play.) <br> <br>Ball can be kicked forward – but chasing players must be onside when the kick is made. <br> <br>Scoring: 5 points for a try (ball grounded in the in-goal area), 2 points for a conversion kick, 3 points for a penalty kick or drop goal. <br> <br>Mauls and rucks – players stay on their feet when contesting or joining these phases. <br> <br>No blocking – only the ball carrier can be tackled or held.

  New Zealand and South Africa have been the two most dominant international teams in rugby since the early 1900s, they are also the two most successful Rugby World Cup teams (which is held every 4 years), SA have won 4 RWCs (1995, 2007, 2019, 2023) and New Zealand have won 3 (1987, 2011, 2015).

  There’s two types of Rugby and it’s all got to do with are you allowed to compete for the ball when a tackles made. These are Rugby Union highlights and yeah both teams scrap for the ball at the tackle so there’s no downs. The other version is Rugby League (NRL) and they get 6 downs each to score , when a tackles made the defence has to re align 10 yards back and the play restarts at the tackle , it’s so quick tho it’s basically non stop , six downs and restarts might take 90 seconds off the clock , it’s an awesome game ( and the tackles are harder due to defence rushing from 10 back every play rather than lining up at scrimmage like they do in Union )

  Just some information, since you asked:<br><br>The play only stops if : There is knock-on (they accidentaly drop the ball from their forwards from their hands and the ball touches the ground), a forward pass (because you&apos;re only allowed to pass backwards with your hands) , a penalty (like a high tackle or something else against the rules) , when the ball goes out (across the lines on the side of the pitch) , when there is a free-kick (which happens under only a few conditions), or when a try is scored. Other than that, the play just continues all the time , unlike American football. <br><br>That&apos;s about it for the most part. I might have forgot something but that&apos;s the main ones.

  Main thing is that fair competition for the ball is always allowed, except on penalties. Even a scrum, or lineout, possession is given to the non-offending team, but their advantage is to know the play. The ball marks the offside line, which is why you&apos;ll see lines formed if the team in posession can&apos;t recycle quickly. Played well, it&apos;s very fluid, and demands a lot of situational awareness from the players, as you don&apos;t have the time followowing a tackle to tell people the plan like you&apos;re afforded in American football.

  NZ&apos;s women are also legendary. Team&apos;s called Black Ferns. Out of all world cups in Rugby, the English Red Roses won three (I think in &apos;98, then 2014 and 2025), every single other world cup was won by the Black Ferns. Also the Black Ferns Sevens are very much dominant as well, they&apos;re currently on a winning spree (which I&apos;ll be rooting for them to continue this weekend in Vancouver) and are on the HSBC world series ranked #1 (while the All Blacks Sevens are currently on #3 if I remember correctly).

  One thing is as New Zealand we play the pacific island nations on a regular basis. They have the weight, we have the tactics. We know we are going to take some losses with every match, and plan for that. Every island are full of big boys, be that Fiji, Tonga or Samoa. &nbsp;That makes all the rest easy by comparison. The drawback of the islands is for them to get to national level, it takes muscle. Once they reach international level though, muscle is not enough and they need skill and tactics to direct that power. That is what holds them back, until they get it, then you get a Jona Lomu. The full package of physicality, and also game tactics. No one has the power to just run through 5 french men, but if you know how to use your own power and betray theirs, you can just run on through as Jona did.
