Batch cooking and feezing meals (soups and stews, rice and fresh bread in particular) made the biggest difference to my meal planning. Highly recommend to everyone who's looking to make this easier. Freezing means you don't have to eat the same thing every day, but space it out.

What I eat for dinner is generally dictated by what's on sale.

I feel like I'm the only person on earth who actually loves to grocery shop. It's my favorite chore/errand by far, especially on the occasions when I get to go to specialty stores and explore unique food items.

Frozen fish (seafood), frozen vegetables, frozen berries (especially blueberries) has been the way for me recently as there can be so much variety with seemingly no worries about expiring.

Given that the majority of the most expensive items are at eye level in any given grocery isle, squatting down to see what less people are supposed to see is a good habit I've adopted to cut costs when needed

An important requirement for this type of shopping is being able to trust your improvisational skills in the kitchen - are you confident that you can throw together a good meal from ingredients in your fridge?

If not, it's probably worth a little practice. I find it much more pleasant than trying to prepare for and follow an online recipe
