If the power goes out, they say, eat the fridge first, then the freezer, then the pantry.

omigosh, I just did this late last year and I planned phases. Phase 1 was what you did in this video, phase 2 was strictly buying only fresh veg and condiments or spices that I needed in order to use up whatever else I had. Phase 3 was organizing what I had left and re-alphabetizing my herbs and spices and cleaning pantry shelves. Then we got down to mindful restocking pantry staples. It's so satisfying when you enter a new phase, and honestly I'm never not doing this now, I'm always shifting from one phase to the next and starting over because this new mindset about food consumption saves us so much money and we NEVER throw out food anymore

i keep a really large pantry, so once per month I go through and see what kind of stuff we don't really eat anymore, what may be close to expiration, or that I am simply tired of seeing languishing. All of those items go on the counter in a spot I keep just for that. As the month progresses, I base my meals on what's in that spot, then fill it in with what should come out of the freezer and what's in the fridge that will go bad soon. I generally treat this like a game of Chopped so it's really fun for me.

I am impressed. Not a vegan, but enjoyed your meal creativity so much. Everything looked tasty.

I hope you give yourself a bit of grace on your stockpile, you are a content creator after all 😊 I moved 2 weeks ago and made the decision to go through aaalllll of my stash before any new shopping. I am allowing myself one fresh green (just one) and cherry tomatoes and one container of fresh berries but all grains, beans, pasta, nuts, seeds etc will come from my freezer & pantry. Honestly, as just one person, I bet it will be 3 months before I need to restock 😮

When i lived with a lot of roommates, 7-9 people, we would make 4 times a year "what is in the big tower freezer baskets mystery meals" buffet party, with what we have, most stuff lacked labels and we would not know what it was till it was defrosted to cook 😂 it was fun way to clear out freezer and pantry, come with new ideas for recipes, and be grateful for what we have too. Now i do that at my home 2 times a year.

I went through my food storage and did this till majority was gone, it made me realise I prefer non meat meals and cold instead of hot meals.

good strategy: make one day of the week a 'leftover' day, where you don't buy anything for dinner and breakfast for the next morning. Right after this should be your shopping day. So you use up what gets forgotten and you should have an empty freezer that you can clean more easily like this. We normaly do meal planning and I only plan for Saturday to Thursdays and let Friday open on the plan to remind us to eat whatever is still lurking around, same for breakfast the next morning. time to use up some flour for pancakes f.ex. if there is no bread left. just get creative:) it keeps our pantry and freezer always "clutter"free and we dont have food going bad anymore

What we are doing is cutting back. We are now old and no kids live w us any more. We have endless canned things plus I garden big time and can the excess. No more on stocking up so much that I literally have rooms full of food and big full freezers. I used to have 12 bottles of ketchup etc and am determined not to stock more than 3, as an example. It is just all too much. I'm in charge of the food and I know my family would literally pitch it if I died. I've been on this since January. We still buy dairy stuff and the things my husband particularly wants. Good for you for making progress!!
