    The years leading up to the civil war really quite honestly is more important to learn about than the actual war itself.

    Also, this piece states that they at the beginning of the war the Noth had a pop. of around 22 million and the South had 9 million. What the author did not state was that 4 million of the South&apos;s 9 million were slaves, so basically the South had 5 million against approx 20 million for the North. Just sayin&apos;.

    As an ex-pat Brit living in New Zealand, most of this was a revelation for me. &nbsp;It was not a subject covered in UK schools when I was a lad. &nbsp;Incredibly interesting.
