  The most commonly misunderstood thing about hypnosis is that the hypnotist doesn’t &apos;do&apos; anything &apos;to&apos; you. They have no special power, they simply guide you through the process of hypnotising yourself. In other words, hypnosis only happens if you allow it to. If you really don’t want to be hypnotised, you won’t be.<br><br>There are techniques that can mentally influence someone in ways that resemble hypnosis without actually inducing a hypnotic state, but that’s something different. Stage hypnotists often use such methods to &apos;warm people up&apos;, helping them identify those who are most likely to go along with the process. <br><br>In addition, there are simple biological or biomechanical tricks such as the common &nbsp;&apos;30-second finger test&apos; &nbsp;as seen at the start of this video, that have nothing to do with hypnosis itself. These rely purely on natural muscular and neurological responses that work the same way for almost everyone. A hypnotist might use them to make a subject more focused or suggestible, but the effect is physical, not psychological. Actually, the harder you try to stop it, by gripping your hands together tighter etc, the more it happens. if you relax everything its easier to keep them apart.
