i always love the endings of the seasons, where they contrast whatever's going on in the girl's life with the climate. like here, the whole country is excited that the US president is here, but all they care about is James not leaving them, it's very sweet

I'm pretty sure they weren't saying she has no shame about the abortion, but the fact she abandoned her son without even saying goodbye to him.

Abortion wasn't legal in NI until 2020, and the Republic until 2018 I think. So lots of woman who wanted an abortion, including Kathy would go to England. They hate her because she abandoned James. Sweet reaction btw. 😊

Yep, Zombie is about the long divide between catholics and protestants fighting each other in Ireland.

35:03 Extremely important. It was a formal acknowledgement by the USA to the plight of Northern Ireland. You are correct.

Drugdealers were kneecapped by the paramilitaries during the Troubles when the police were not accepted. Criminals were shot in both knees. That's how the band Kneecap got their name.

Clinton was key to getting a peace deal. He was there from the start of his Presidency right through his 8 years, pushing for peace. One of the key players in bringing peace to Northern Ireland for sure. His involvement and importance to the process cannot be overstated.

That juxtaposition at the end of episode 5 between the Derry Girls at high school and what was happening in Ireland irl, SO GOOD.
