The ending scene was meant to be more of showcasing the reality these teenagers are living in, what was the reality of lots of teenagers at the time. Basically showcasing that while they're having fun in their world, lots of fucked up shit is happening around them that the adults are even more aware of.

The ending is showing the innocence of the girls experience their childhood while horrible things happen in the world around them

Really it is less weird when you understand the Irish conflict.

It is about teens going through normal teenage angst and issues (exaggerated of course) while also living through some of the most violent times in modern history.

As someone who lived through the conflict years like Lisa Magee , who wrote Derry Girls , I can testify to the story lines - we just tried to have normal lives but in the background there was the horror of daily bombings and shootings , destruction and death - we just thought it was normal and we just tried to have have normal teenager lives despite everything ! We didn’t know any better ! Good for Lisa Magee for writing it all down and showing the Irish humour !

36:18 the ending is to represent these girls are just being innocent kids enjoying life while the world around them is crumbling into chaos and destruction.

I dont think you'd find the show that weird if u were from a country that faces trouble. As someone who has just been through a war, i find the show genius. Trying to show that teenagers are still teenagers even during tough times and they still walk around doing dumb shit
The balance between the troubles and innocence of the youth is amazing
And yes i did do a lot of teenage dumb shit during the war

as a person whose native language is not even english, I found that I was able to understand the slang after watching a few episodes merely because of context – it's my favourite way of learning language

    "She's cooking!"
"The oven's not even on!"
I'm creased, that's the perfect way to describe Orla 😂

This set during the Troubles which was a long conflict caused by the long history of colonisation of Ireland by the English. The show is a juxtaposition of trying to live normally whilst your country is at war and you're at constant risk of death.

I think the ending it’s supposed to show a parallel between the innocence of youth vs the actual reality of the world they’re living in cause the whole show is happening while they’re in a period of political conflict.
