  I heard people in Atlanta called The Omni "the egg crate." One thing is for sure, they used to give arenas cool names. The Omni. The Summit. The Forum. Now it's all boring corporate names.

  ah, the Cow Palace. as far as old arenas go, it was a top pro wrestling venue well into the 1990s.

  The old Garden used to shake when the trains would come into station. The train station was below the floor.

  Those older arenas were comfy and quirky and fun.  The new arenas might be nice and shiny but they are corporate (suites etc) and for wealthy fans.  I really miss the older arenas with REAL names !

  In addition to being home of the Mariners, Seahawks & Sonics from 1978-1985, the Kingdome was also home to the original Seattle Sounders of the North American Soccer League from 1976-1983 so the Kingdome was really home to four different teams during that time. As you can imagine, this created numerous scheduling issues so much so that the Sounders often started their NASL season with a string of 7-8 road games in a row (which would result in ending the season with 7-8 home games in a row) to avoid the busy period between mid April-early June where the Mariners & Sonics would often have scheduling conflicts as the Sonics often made deep postseason runs during that time.

  Up until 1974, the Philadelphia 76ers occasionally played games at Hershey Arena, 85 miles west of Philly. The town is known mostly for a factory producing milk chocolates. Wilt scored 100 points in a game at Hershey Arena in 1962.

  I liked the continental airlines arena in the 90s (NJ Nets). I think sometimes "lack of character" was the character local fans loved about their arenas. They're all gone now, sadly.

  Whenever I hear "The Omni  in Atlanta", I immediately think back to the NWA and World Championship Wrestling.

  The Kings&apos; original Arco Arena was neat because underneath the seats were plywood platforms<br>Everybody created NOISE by stomping their feet

  The San Jose Sharks played there first two years at the Cow palace and the Toronto Raptors played at skydome
