  I'm Mexican. I grew hearing the legend of La Llorona. I appreciate you covering some encounters with her. And a moment of silence for the good boy who gave his life to protect the soldier and his girlfriend from the wicked spirit.

  I remember scaring my Spanish Teacher, who is from Spain, and my whole Spanish class, while telling the legend of La Llarona. The looks on their faces, it was priceless. If I could tell them some of the German and Irish legends too, they'd never sleep again.

  I&apos;ve heard that jaguars in heat sound very much like a wailing woman, as do several other large cats that live all over the Americas. It&apos;s possible people would think these cats in heat were wailing women. Jaguars do enjoy being near water, where a lot of these cries are reported, so it&apos;s very possible la Llorona arose as a way to explain what these cries were.

  In Venezuela, we fear both La llorona and La sayona. Unlike La llorona, la sayona was once a beautiful woman who thought her husband was cheating on her, so she killed him in revenge, only to realize that he wasn&apos;t cheating on her, so she killed herself and now punish cheaters for all eternity.

  Visiting Mexico in the summers to visit my grandma as a kid was very funny when you hear the crying at night. You wanna be scared because it’s La Llorona but my Uncle yells “Callate Pinche Vieja!!!” And it stops and everyone laughs.
