  They want you to waste your life on them. It took about 7 attempts to go no contact for good. My only regret was how longbit took bc i was lacking education. I overstayed , over gave and over shared. Moving in silence and going no contact has allowed me to salvage at least a part of my life. They're absolute life ruiners/wreckers.

  I’m really impressed by your discernment and your ability to step back and see things clearly. I think you’ve done an excellent job. It probably took me somewhere between five and ten years to understand all of this.<br><br>My mother is BPD/NPD, as were my ex-partners, so it took me a long time. For a very long time, I was the enabler. And everything you describe about escapism and all of that is absolutely true.<br><br>In fact, narcissistic people and people with BPD/NPD can create an ecosystem that feels very similar to a cult. In order to maintain the denial, they create an entire ecosystem based on denying reality, completely detached from other people, almost like an island, and they impose that reality on everyone around them. In particular, they can force their children to remain emotionally immature in order to maintain their power over them.<br><br>I emancipated myself from my mother maybe ten or fifteen years ago, and I have to admit, it’s been quite a journey.<br><br>So congratulations on having gained that perspective. I think you should move away and create some physical distance, because I think people with BPD/NPD often want to maintain some kind of connection, whatever form it takes—manipulation, drama, or anything else—because that connection gives them something.<br><br>So, in my opinion, these situations rarely end well. And I think that’s generally one of the reasons children remain attached to narcissistic parents: they keep hoping that, eventually, there will be some kind of positive resolution.

  That’s one of the worst things about being an NPD victim. You can love someone to the moon and back. We’re all in our own personal hell and no one can help us climb out. We have to do that on our own.
