All the parts of The Menagerie with Capt Pike, Spock, and the older uniforms is the original pilot episode, "The Cage". The network rejected the series, but ordered another pilot episode, "Where No Mane Has Gone Before", to give the series a chance. Roddenberry just incorporated the original pilot into The Menagerie.

The writers on the original series were the best! What imaginations in the mid-1960s!

In the original pilot that this was drawn from, there are several brief scenes of other aliens that the Talosians have captured.

Imagine you were 12 years old and watching this new show. I’m now in my early 70’s and am unexpectedly joyful at you two experiencing this iconic groundbreaking for its time sci-fi classic. ❤. My brother and I called the aliens butt heads because of their shape in the back of the heads.😂

Captain Pike's mind is trapped in his disabled body. Nobody can reach into his mind - but the Talosians can! They can read his thoughts and give him back his life.

BTW, The Keeper is played by actress Meg Wyllie.

I was 9 years old in 1969 when I first saw this episode in syndication. When Spock at his trial said the images on the view screen were events that took place 13 years prior, at that age I took it literally.

Spock clearly showed some emotion here knowing that he must help his old commanding officer.

Susan Oliver, who played "Vina", had quite an interesting career. She acted in a ton of TV shows from the mid-50's all the way through to the 80's. Later in her career she became a director which was very rare for women at the time. And she was an accomplished airplane pilot. She passed away in 1990 at the age of 58.
