The irony of charging trans POC attendees a discounted price and then not paying their trans POC wrestlers is so….preformative? Tone deaf? Down right racist?

As a pro wrestling fan, this story pisses me the fuck off. Taking advantage of your own community is bad enough but to do it while clearly having no idea what pro wrestling actually entails is crazy. It's dangerous fucking work. You cant just pull people off the street with no experience, they will get hurt. Their legs will explode and the promotion will be liable. But that can't happen because there isn't even a promotion. There's nobody even aware that there are wrestling commissions and state specific laws that need to be followed to a fucking T (pun intended). There's no LLC even holding the money that you aren't paying people with to potentially risk their lives. Pro wrestling is one of those industries that is very transparently about making money and there are an infinite number of examples about what happens to promoters and their promotions when they decide to not pay. What a shit show.

This has all the poorly run events staples. No actual finance people, no insurance, no training for performers, disappearing bosses. Yikes

let me add another fucked up thing: i’m a wheelchair user. i went to a tboy wrestling event i believe last may? the venue was not wheelchair accessible, even though they listed that they were accessible. the front door had stairs and none of the staff up there knew what to do. they were scrambling finding people and i just had to wait outside for ten minutes. then, they took me to a locked gate. waiting again for someone. it was an alley. AN ALLEY. with a very sketchy wheelchair lift that i barely fit in (and my chair is not large). the only “wheelchair accessible entrance” was in AN ALLEY. it was gross!! and this was after i paid $80 for two tickets !!!

on top of that, it was listed as ASL interpreted. the interpreter was clearly someone’s unqualified friend. she did not have ASL skills that were enough to be interpreting an event. she kept talking to people who were part of the event when people were actively announcing stuff and just never interpreted it. she also was only on one side with no platform, so largely impossible to see.

they just considered us last and that much was clear.

Using a tech deck to decide someones pay is a cartoon villain billionaire move and that's insane. I in no way shape or form believe in the prison system (never helps anyone) but by Allah Im not arguing against some jail time lol.

bought tickets to the tboy wrestling show in nyc weeks in advance. it was advertised explicitly as an 18+ show. day of the event the venue is changed. when me and my friend get there we’re told that we can’t get in because it’s a 21+ venue. MANY people were turned away because of this. emailed them and never got my money back

As someone who watched a bit of WWE as a child, the participants shouldn’t have even felt like they needed to compete in these matches/be in the same weight class because the fights are fixed from the beginning and choreographed! It’s actually surprising that with no practice beforehand more people weren’t hurt like Daniel.

We need more corporate queers in events. Like everyone can’t be artists you need someone who knows how to use a spreadsheet
