"When you are American and Black, people like to assume you don't know what you're talking about. Um, so. Fuck you. I always know what I'm talking about because I research everything."<br><br>I need this quote on a banner cuz I feel it in my SOUL.

As a Portuguese woman, I thank you for that "Portugal" call-out. In most conversations regarding colonialism, Portugal gets left out (nowadays, especially because we're so insignificant). In Portuguese classrooms (at least some 15 to 20 years ago), we also very much talk of our "Age of Discovery" in very noble terms and highlighting all sorts of Portuguese prowess and ingenuity. But we were right there in the beginning, and could almost be seen as the vile inventors of the transatlantic slave trade. It disgusts me how we've basically escaped any introspection, let alone consequences, for our role in one of worst atrocities this world has known. Especially with the far-right's resurgence here, I wish more people knew about this.

"just because a conversation may be new to you does not mean it's new to historians, sociologists, or people who actually take the time to time to discover how this things impact society today" very important!!!

<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDYcW8tm6aA&t=1379">22:59</a> the whole Europeans™ being scandalized by human sacrifice is always insane to me cuz like, Europeans were doing public executions left and right and coming up with the most intricate torture methods known to man but that's completely ok I guess

That line was a bar, “you cannot have Black liberation if every tweet is going to push you into white supremacy”!

I remember a video of a very British person saying that Britain is better than the USA because they didn't have a history of slavery. Seriously? Where do they think USA got the idea of slavery from??

I really appreciate you calling Portugal out. As a brazilian, it is quite baffling to me how THE biggest colonial empire at one point in history goes under everyone's radar on this subject. Also, I always had a hard time understanding US discourse around mixed race because brazilian race history and politics are VERY different but your video made me understand it a little bit more, so thank you for the research and essay.

When you were saying like “I know what I’m talking about, f*ck the racists” at the beginning, my husband (sleeping beside me while I watch this) reached a hand out of the covers and started snapping. Without opening his eyes, he said “I don’t know what this video’s about but that was FIRE” and immediately went back to sleep lol. Even the very sleepy recognize your greatness

The one drop rule has such strange logic - the urge to make the oppressed group as large as possible (while still keeping the privileged group as large as possible, so that they don't get overrun)
