A coworker/friend of mine was killed by a swinging auger. The steel broke winding up to stow.

You do the inspection at the yard before leaving , why wait till you need it and it’s broke ? Not real smart managers

As the auger is lowered you must extend the boom. Not retract

Altec is good equipment, except when it gets within 50 meters of a radio transmission tower. Then nothing works. Dead stick. Until the vehicle it is mounted on leaves the zone of intense EMF. Then it works just great. I wrote Altec and Ford and they both replied: "D'ir, gawrsh, I aint never herd of that before..." They would have, had the hydraulics pop open the wrong valve and the boom collapses to the ground, or dumps an 80' Class 5 pole into the occupied mess-hall at your parents rest-home. Lucky? Or was it good engineering? You be the Judge.
