  The song Africa often brings me to tears these days. The melody, the vocal harmonies, that incredible bass guitar line, Bobby Kimball’s tenor lead, the priceless rhythms of Lenny Castro and Jeff, it all comes together and transcends the sum of it’s parts. My big sister introduced me to Toto and this timeless masterpiece when Toto IV was released in early 1982. I was almost nine and a half years old. Our father had passed away in September of 1980 and life was in a state of uncertainty. We were very close and shared a special bond among us nine kids. I was her little baby brother. I was her Buggy Wuggy and she was my Frlly Jill. We lost her to cancer in 2012 at 45 years old. Now this song opens the floodgates of my childhood and memories with my big sister, rocking out to her records in her bedroom and sharing our intense love of music and hanging on with anticipation as we experienced the unfurling of our youth. Miss you Jill. ❤️

  The night of the Grammy’s , the Porcaro brothers’ father (Joe Porcaro) was playing drums in the Grammy’s event orchestra !

  Joe Porcaro talking (<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aUPANYNMdMA&amp;t=2246">37:26</a>) about how there was a lot of love and a lot of friendship, how they&apos;d come and eat etc. and how he misses that - &nbsp;it just warms my heart and makes me very emotional. I feel my childhood was something like that until my musician-dad died when I was 8 years old. Life changed drastically and that sense of community disappeared. No more musicians coming and going, hanging and telling jokes. Oh, how those moments are so golden, the best we can ever have. Really, what could be more important than being surrounded by the closest friends and loved-ones, sitting at the table and just being together?

  My 10 Reasons why Africa is still the best song that I always love to hear:<br><br>1. Distinctive groove of drums and percussions.<br><br>2. Warmest synth pad contrasted with high notes synth kalimbas and flutes that are so perfect.<br><br>3. Low notes of solo verse, but excellent high vocal harmony in choruses. Note: never sing the chorus alone on stage.<br><br>4. Still enjoyable to hear wherever you are, whatever you do.<br><br>5. Many radio stations play it, some music channels still viewing it.<br><br>6. Part of Toto-IV, the best of Album and tracks that won the Grammys in 1982.<br><br>7. The lyrics have abstract meanings, so you can percept it the way you like or anyway you feel.<br><br>8. Still enjoyable whatever kind of media you play it, either in Vinyl LP, Cassette, CD, MP3, AAC, or anything else.<br><br>9. You can hear it in softer or louder volumes, tiny to big speakers, no matter what, still great in any situations.<br><br>10. Past, Present, or Future Generations, this song is unforgettable.

  Truly an amazing band. Anyone who&apos;ve read the liner notes to albums know the names of the Porcaro Brothers along with Steve Lukather. They were established session players.
