Gym and fitness for most is inner peace. Don’t let two men who train differently tell you otherwise! Keep your peace, fitness and humility.

Do something….walk…lift some weights….do some crunches…..stretch……don’t just sit……and know your limits. I’m 60…two bad shoulders…one bad tricep….a knee that needs surgery……but l concentrate on what l can do…..l don’t worry about what l can’t

I ran across Pat in NC. He was leaving an eatery getting on his motorcycle. I Just said, “Basic Dude Stuff” . He laughed at that.

I've based my workouts on a triathlon structure, multiple environments, methods, almost daily. Before work after work, been doing it for decades.

Burpees, pushups, sit-ups, wall sits, no equipment except maybe a bar for pull-ups

Norwegian Reconiesance Squadron fitness test, especially the treadmill test, is considered beastly-- when force vectors are understood.

51, retired UPS. High rep squats after hip stretching feels amazing. You know what kills my knees in 8 mos of retirement.....the couch. All that movement all those years was a blessing, though we didn't always see it that way.

I retired at 63, fell for the golden years trend, relaxed and took it easy. 21 months ago I found out I lost my strength, not good for a man. Started weight lifting 3 times a week for 60 minutes. Bicycle ride and cardio on alternate days. Now I am strong, fit, balanced, fast and happy with my progress and quality of life.

From my real world experience the guy is correct. Your body needs to work together with all the various muscles in a symbiotic way. Isolation training leaves weak areas comparatively and can lead to injury or weak areas across the range of motion. The eye opener for me was splitting and stack a bunch of huge logs. I had to position myself similar to how I lifted in the gym to utilize my strength. I was very strong but only in my range of motion that I worked out in. Shortly afterwards I changed training style and the next year when we did the same work splitting and stacking wood I was like a different person far more balanced and capable. It was shocking because my 1 rep max had went down across the board but I flew through the hours smoothly without even a thought of stance and form beyond avoiding lifting in a manner that was bad for my lower back. Most of what I had been doing was actually the last year was calisthenics with supplemental weight and yoga after my workouts. It was a remarkable experience to say the least.

I've been hitting the kettlebells pretty hard since the beginning of Summer makes a big difference. My best friend said just that when I told him I was doing kettlebells you're going to throw your back out man and I pretty much said no dude this is what makes my back stronger! That was full-on text to speech so pardon my grammar LOL
