It’s funny how returning to prepandemic sales are conceived as the “death of luxury fashion”. Luxury fashion sales were in a bubble - now sales are just normalizing.

No, it’s not over — but these brands really need to revisit what exclusivity and quality actually mean. There’ll always be space for them, but let’s be honest: the era of people performing 'generational wealth' while diluting their shampoo to stretch the bottle is running on borrowed time.

It's called commoditization of luxury brands, but not luxury. There's an unsettling feeling knowing that several luxury brands are owned by a corporation. And that kills theirs luxury vibe. Now imagine you find an unknown craftsman with superior quality and bespoke intentions; and only few knew about him. Even if it's cheap, it will still be luxurious. Anything that can be commoditized will never be truly luxurious, it can only pretend for so long.

Adopting streetwear was a gold rush for the luxury industry, but it now realizes that by doing so it let go some of its main reasons to exist - quality, materials, cut, design. To make things worse, it combined this shift with ridiculous price hikes that had no link to the product whatsoever. And now there ist no plan for whats next.

Its the lack of quality that has killed these brands. My gucci wallet wore out in less than a year. Lost me for life.

I don't care about luxury fashion. I only care for creative designs. These big brands are not coming up with creative designs. They are only coming out with boring designs with outrageous prices. I am looking at Hermes, Chanel etc...

If the luxury brands are dying and we have a sea of drop ship brands, then we are going to be in an era of brand nebulosity. Nothing will stand out, everything will be the same garbage and unsustainable.

The constant price increases just felt greedy I am glad there is a pushback. They lost the plot when they started to price ppl out with ridiculous price increases and gouging.

As sales decline, they concentrate more on developing restaurants, chocolates, hotels or cosmetics, perfumes as the first step to their brand.

I feel like the luxury jewelry market is about to collapse as well. The Van Cleef scandal certainly didn't do it any favors. Real quality doesn't come from a retail outlet, it comes from your local jeweler.

I love the sound of sad violin playing in the background while you're talking about how their income dropped from 15 to 12B...So that's what the world's smallest violin sounds like.

Luxury sweatshops and insane unmotivated* price hikes makes everyone question their purchases…

* Well, brands started to raise prices to keep the riff-raff away, to guard their exclusivity. No brand wants to be the "affordable" alternative, so then we have an upward spiral. Perhaps not a never-ending carousel, because some brands have slowed down. Maybe because they realised they had started to price out the middle class – brands want to believe that they can cater only to the 0.1%, but they alone won't keep the wheels churning…

People realise that the accelerating prices aren't justified in any material sense. We've always paid a huge premium for luxury, but it's become obscene.
