"It was cheaper." So many horrors can be traced back to those three words.

hmm this arch is suddenly lower than it's supposed to be and slightly "M" shaped. Surely that's not a sign of anything

The fact there were no casualties was pure luck.

I’m from the area and I actually took the photograph that’s used for the thumbnail and featured in the video. I was only a teenager at the time but I remember there being a lot of opposition to it locally, but I was interested in the project from an engineering perspective. On the day I went to photograph the site I remember the thing that really interested me was a long conveyer belt bringing the backfill material from a train in a siding on the other side of the station. It seemed like such a huge project to build a supermarket. I was very surprised to see my photograph from all those years ago on the front page of my YouTube this evening!

Driving a cement truck over an improperly covered tunnel with 6” thick walls is insane. I’m surprised it didn’t collapse then and there.

A 250mm variance? How did anyone look at that and think "this is fine"?

Supermarket tunnel collapses onto busy commuter railway. I know those words but the order doesn't make any sense.

The implication that Tesco has a dedicated disaster investigation division.

    It's a good job politicians
can't be bribed, because things
like this would be more common.

I lived a few miles away at the time. Gerrards cross and Slough were my closest stations.
Tesco's had built a branch bigger than they had planning permission for in Slough and the council's legal budget ran out before Tesco's. They also removed a protected tree in the process. This was about 15 minutes drive from Gerrards cross, so pretty much the entire local population were against the project, but Prescott pushed it through to spite the affluent local population.
When it collapsed, the incident site was such a popular thing to view, point and laugh at, they had to install extra safety barriers to keep people further back.
