I used to work at the Bottom Line in the late 90s early 2000s. Lou would come in at least once a month. As I was the ersatz maitre d' I would often lead him to a table. Being a musician,I knew who he was but he always came off as polite and easy going. Once I went on a date with the singer of a local band and as we were lead to a table in the back of a pretty swanky restaurant(way above my usual haunts) there sat Lou Reed and Laurie Anderson. They both looked up from their meal and said," Hi Ray, how you doing?" I casually greeted them and sat down to see my date with her mouth hanging open. "You know them?" I was super casual about it,lol. As you can imagine, that date was a success, lol. He was always cool to me.

During the Berlin period he once said "I'm going to use Methamphetamine for the rest of my life until I die"<br>If that doesn't explain the intensity of Lou Reed I don't know what does.

Another often overlooked album by Lou Reed is "Coney Island". Reed is one of those artistswho was always willing to take a chance on something different. You have to respect that.

Never mentioned his last wife, Laurie Anderson and the difference in music like "Perfect Day", a wonderful piece...

Lou was probably one of those persons you were just always better off just knowing of, but never meeting.

Imagine being brought to tears because Lou Reed thought you weren't getting the singing right!

I met Lou number of times( from 1991 onwards mostly at events and a few parties) He was always easy to talk to and could hold a great conversation. I must say I was always more of a listener over a talker in these conversations, But I always found them interesting. Ive been a big fan of his work and I think I agree with what David Bowie said about his last album 'LULU". hard to believe he has been dead for 11 years already , such a shame.

I read about Lou Reed doing a song with The Blind Boys Of Alabama. Finished with recording, the group was riding down in the elevator and one of the members asked if Reed was in the elevator. Told he was not, he exclaimed,<br>"Who told that guy he could sing?" to explosive laughter.

There's a huge time jump from Berlin 1973 to Warhol's funeral 1987, a vital 14 years is missing, a vacuum where nothing is mentioned. Similarly his entire 21 year vital relationship with Laurie Anderson, who had a very grounding, stablising effect on his life is unexplored & completely ignored. No true analysis of Lou Reed can't overlook & ignore the essential last 40 years direction of his life (post Berlin) & only offer a brief VU reunion tour & a further creative squabble with John Cale as evidence of his life as though that were thorough journalism.

“Disturbed” to describe Lou Reed seems like a gigantic understatement

Something so missing, Lauri Anderson. A story song no one can forget.
