  This is why the National Anthem and the flag, Old Glory and the Star Spangled banner, mean so much to us. My most touching moment was when my husband died and he had a military funeral at a veteran's cemetery. The honor guard folded the flag from his coffin and presented it to me. A very slow salute accompanied this gift. I completely broke down. One of the most touching moments of my life.

  Now you understand why Americans are so passionate about our flag.  She is our symbol for freedom.  So many have died to insure our freedom, so we remember them and cherish ❤ our flag as our national symbol.  Thank you for your reaction and your understanding.

  Patriotic Americans will not let The Flag touch the ground and despise those that disrespect The Flag. &nbsp;The Flag is the symbol of those that have died to keep &nbsp;this country Free.

  There may have been some &quot;artistic license&quot; taken in the story told here, but much of this did happen. &nbsp;The flag is on display at the Smithsonian in DC. &nbsp;Fort McHenry is still there, and Francis Scott Key did pen the Star Spangled Banner while he watched the bombardment.

  This is why Americans are so patriotic and why we are so proud of our flag. We even to this day never let our flag touch the ground to honor those who died fighting for it.
