This is done intentionally. You do not think the engineers don't know better? These parts are designed to work for a limited time. This creates a service fee. The maintenance/service dept makes up the bulk of the money coming into the dealership/manufacturer brand. It's planned obsolescence at a new level. Most manufacturers do this with all types of items you buy. The plan is for you to buy another one or take it on for service

I never really knew how bad it was until I bought an 87. Everything is metal. Every hose is either aluminum or real reinforced rubber. Even the coolant reservoir is brass. It is a vehicle that will actually last a lifetime.
