My mate was proud of his defender. He had a removable steering wheel, pedal lock box, wheelclamp, immobiliser, tracker, kept behind locked gates. Got home from his holidays , reconnected his phone and got all the alarm notifications. He checked his cctv. Flatbed with hiab lifted the 110 and drove off. No tracker signal or anything after 2 hours.

My grandfather used to pull out one of the main fuses from his vehicle.

So no matter what you did nothing worked until you put the fuse back

Have a hidden very small switch which renders injection pump inoperable, I live in France where vehicle theft isn't a massive problem but defenders are worth a lot more than they are in the UK

I had a customer who had his very late long wheel base station wagon stripped on his driveway while his wife and children watched the thieves from the house . They were on the phone to the police who said not to intervene and stay safe . All the doors and bonnet gone in minutes before the police could even arrive. Something needs to be done about the criminals .

A very timely video …. We was at Hollowell steam rally this weekend and 2 defenders got stolen from the car park on Saturday …… and apparently another 8 were stolen that same day in Northamptonshire alone. I have fitted the optimill steering wheel removal and lock, a high end tracker and immobiliser …… but also. It is always parked tight against the house with 1 or 2 cars blocking it in at night. Such a shame we have to think like this but that’s the modern world unfortunately

Mate of mine had his nicked, they just winched it onto a tow truck, and gone. Its hard to protect against that. Best thing. Have then scruffy and dented and those parts not worth nicking! All mine have a very odd, heavy duty electrical disconnect keyed switch. All connections are shielded. Also in line, well obscured fuel valve in line. Helps also..being automatic. But to be fair. If they really want it, they will get it. Never leave in station car parks...mine dont fit under the bleddy barriers anyway!

To prevent driveway theft and theft outside shops then a strong chain connected to something like cans (think of how people decorated wedding cars back in the old days). As noisy as possible. Keep it inside the vehicle. Lock it to the tow bar and push underneath the body. If that thing is winched or moved it's going to shout and scream to anyone within a 100 yards, especially in the still of night. Cost = a good long chain, a good lock, some cans. 😎

A remote controlled detonator under the drivers seat cushion is a good way to ensure that there will no theft reoccurance in future. Only problem is liability - the aluminium skinned roof is unlikely to protect passers by from a pair of high speed gonads.

All your suggestions are good . I have a full steering wheel cover, after market immobiliser and battery isolator with removable key and the vehicle is garaged. If I want to do a quick trip to the shop etc it's a faff so I end up just taking the car depriving me of the enjoyment of my 90. I believe if the prison sentences were increased to deter the scroats it might help. Just my opinion as we know the bastards will still find a way if they want it.

Battery immobilizer on the seat box is a simple mod , no huge lumps of metal to store or to fly around in an accident, Durite and others do ones with a proper key for less than £50
