  I sobbed and became depressed when Harry Chapin was killed in an automobile accident on Long Island (where he lived,) at the age of 38 in 1981. My then-boyfriend and I had bought a couple of his albums just a few months before that. We had listened to those albums a lot and were amazed by his talent. <br>Harry Chapin left behind a wife, three stepchildren and two children of his own, that he had with his wife. He was very active in the cause of solving world hunger and other humanitarian causes. He didn&apos;t leave a lot of money behind because he had given so much away to charities.

  John Wallace who sang the falsetto in the song had a five octave range. He could sing as low or as high as anybody you&apos;ve ever heard. Miss you Harry.

  The bass player is John Wallace. &nbsp; He was often introduced as being on bass and &quot;vocal pyrotechnics&quot; (fireworks). &nbsp;Dude could sing a deep bass line too!

  This song is well-loved, especially if you were around when it was released. Harry spent his short life fighting hunger and was a great humanitarian. 💜💜💜

  Harry would be so proud to know that his food banks feed over 250,000 needy people per month..R.I.P. Harry..Thanks for ALL you gave us..Gone but definitely not forgotten. 🙏❤

  Came out in 1972. &nbsp;Harry Chapin (Chay-pin) was a great storyteller who left us way too soon.

  One of the best story tellers as a songwriter. He was born in New York and died in a car crash in 1981 at age only 38. The man was very special and one of a kind.
