I have all of these. Dave Brubeck lived near us. My friend's mom called him to see if he could play his wedding. Brubeck said he was busy but sent his son over...

Every album is a class of its own. The musicians are great in their way. There are shurely a lot more records to tell. But the essence of this video shows the endless possibilities to play Jazz. Love and peace from an old white man from Germany.

.... I am 85 and as a teenager played 4th trumpet in a Saturday evening big band that toured the East Midlands American air bases. It was before the Beatles, and the Musicians Union had banned American entertainers from the UK - but US air bases were effectively the USA so we heard some US top liners when we were playing. Then Nottingham University Big Band, now on tenor sax and the 1962 inter university jazz competition.
But more importantly from the late 1950s through the early 1960s witnessed the greatest new wonders of modern jazz - worthy of any kind of musical approval - Miles and Bill Evans are in their own way the equals of say, Bruckner and Chopin.
Problem is, the latter's music is written down, ours is only on record

These are all truly incredible inspiring albums. I would add Horace Silver's "Song For My Father" but I wouldn't know which one to take out of the albums in this video. Awesome albums loved by a proud British Asian tenor sax learner.

I'm a drummer so I noticed right away that "Time out" was in 5/4. I really don't think the audience knew or cared about that. It was infusing melody and a new kind of texture that seemed to attract them. I learned how to play in 5 Joe's way, just because of that song. Even the songs in 9/8 had melody and dynamic textures that attracted people to listen to them. Joe Morello was way way way better than drummers think to make 5/4 and 9/8 songs go down that smoothly. I honestly don't think the audience cared about that, but us drummer HAD to know where 1 is. LOL.

It is so sad and wrong that so many of my jazz heroes and heroines passed far too early in their lives. Knowing this lets me live even more closely tied to being clean & sober for 46 unbroken years.

It is impossible to narrow it down to just 10.

Excellent video! Not everyone will agree with what you picked, what you left off, the order of importance, etc. But I think it's a great conversation starter, in the best possible way. And I certainly learned a lot, even about albums I've listen to for decades. Well done.

Interesting list. Stan Kenton's "Adventures in Time" was also a great one!
