fun fact caravaggio used mainly grey grounds in his early years and darkened the ground has he got older

carbon black is still a particular black,i tried to prepare some in different ways and sometimes is really particular,is like pure black smoke that tones down every pigment it touch but in a gentle way and really efficient,but slows drying and it's tricky

I cant wait to see some discussion about color -I see Caravaggio demos doing one of two things, either glazing color or kind of working alla prima over the underpainting. I have been doing studies with lead white underpaintings. I really like using it but I think in skilled hands titanium white can get it done too. what I found though is I can do multiple passes in lead white building layers and allowing more detail as it's more transparent.

I don't think they can paint this, man. There are many people nowadays who can't go further than drawing stick figures or throwing paint like Pollock, and they call themselves artists 😂
