Around 20 yrs ago when I was doing small open studio things in the rural area I lived, a local artist (who was 80yrs old, v experienced) came round and told me to double all the prices. I did and went on to sell two large horse paintings for 1200 each. I had never sold anything for that much. The psychology is true!

This is all so true - especially the part of the storytelling/"before the explosion". Almost 10 years ago, I would see original Disney paintings that people were doing and thought how cool it would be to one day be an artist doing that type of work. The paintings I saw had bold colors, sharp lines and curves, and were in a very mid-century modern / graphic style. I buckled down to figure out how to paint like that. And after a lot of work, this week I'm one of the artists with Disney Fine Art at the EPCOT International Festival of the Arts. It was a bucket list dream from 10 years ago and I couldn't be more grateful! I have been telling this story the past couple days to guests who walk by my booth and I can tell that it resonates with them, especially when I start with the "before" part as you mentioned!

Why then when I lower my prices - the revenue goes up, when I increase my prices - the sales just stop.

This must be why i hear about people making up their beginning stories. Cuz few people now apparently want to buy from, "I had a boring upbringing with enough to eat, swimming lessons in the summer, and I won scholarships/awards in college". Hmmm

If this was always true, there would never be the saying, "The cream rises to the top."

Hey girl, I love all your videos and I don’t know you can make the most boring topics so engaging and interesting to listen to. You’re a great communicator!

Just an idea, but I feel like you’d be great at critiquing people in branding. I think you have a gift for branding And it might be a service people are willing to pay for like $250 for an hour of branding critique. Just an idea.
