  Approaching my collection as a private library, thinking of myself of as a gamer rather than a collector, and focusing on playing roughly 2 or 3 games until I'm done with them has helped me fall back into gaming as an adult. I've also pruned my library of games I'm finished with, and less attached to.

  You're right. I started to notice for me that i was always waiting on the next game to buy -- like an adrenaline rush -- instead of playing the games I already have.

  oddly enough this also happened with streaming media now there's nearly maybe 1000s of tv series/movies just like how now games from PS1-PS5 plus PC/Steam games there's ridiculous amount of overwhelmingly games I just don't know to choose from even in the ps2/ps3 era even 50 games already considered alot

  Yes Yes Yes, i don&apos;t want to be a mindless consumer anymore. I&apos;ve been dealing with depression all my life, but it&apos;s the daily habits, and paused, mindful consumption is one of them.<br><br>I don&apos;t need more games nor game consoles.

  I sold most of my physical collection years ago, but now I&apos;m obsessed with ROM collecting. It&apos;s definitely cheaper, but it&apos;s still the same issues that you said.

  My collection fits in a small box. &nbsp;Only games from my childhood that mean something special to me. &nbsp;I only play on PC now

  To be fair, you can apply this discussion to anything. Books, cars, gym, even DIY projects. It happened to me with manga, and I think what influenced me was the special drops and social media. Once I realized that I was buying manga just for the sake of putting it on my shelf, that’s when I realized that this is not a hobby that I’m actually into. I never plan on actually revisiting these<br><br>I sold everything and put that money into my true hobbies, like video games and DVD collecting

  You get to the heart of it. Finally someone says it. I stopped collecting five years ago and sold 90% of my collection and console. It was a ballast. I spent more time collecting and searching than really playing. Now I take it easy and just play.

  I wish someone told me this back in 2007 when I discovered steam sales. I became a collector by accident. The habit of buying anything discounted that looked neat followed me when I eventually branched out of pc gaming. I always thought “more options, more better”. Hundreds of games on pc, at least a hundred on switch, dozens on 3ds, a dozen on my phone, a few dozen on ps5. Always acquiring more games and more systems, and what do I do? I almost always play one game at a time for months or years, typically on pc. My rule now is only buy if I know for sure I will play right away. Sales don’t matter. Sales and discounts didn’t save me any money at all. I wish this was my rule twenty years ago.
