  I'm sitting here in tears.  It happened to me when I was 11 and 12.  I never told anyone until my mom asked me why I didn't want him to perform my wedding.  She was upset and mentioned it to another woman.  She gasped and said "he did that to my daughter, too".  Then, my aunt said the same thing about her daughter.  You just didn't talk about it then.  When our 3 dads went to the deacons, of course denied it.  When the deacon stood and told the church about it, 1/2 the church blamed the preteen girls and not him!!  It included one of my uncles.  Ironically, when they were leaving the church, his 20 year-old son said, "dad, you promised it would never happen again".  Twenty years later, I received a phone call from a police department.  The officer asked me if I knew that man.  They wanted to hear my story.  They told me he had been arrested for molesting his niece!  Our stories helped convict him and he was sentenced to prison.  Sadly, many of those former church members - as well as my uncle and Sunday School teacher - still stood by him!  I'm so sorry for what all you have suffered.  Mine was nothing compared to yours.  But being ridiculed by so many I loved and admired stays with me all these years later.

  34 yrs ago I was a youth pastor at the age of 29. I was very careful how I conducted myself around the girls in that group. The first thing I did was to recruit a female volunteer my age who could be a mentor to the girls. She was great. Later, I had an older couple who also helped - especially the wife who became like a Mom to the girls. Churches and ministries have got to be very careful who they appoint. Accountability AND discernment are critical in these matters.

  It is absolutely INFURIATING that churches downplayed his abominable actions and reverted blame onto the CHILD. OUTRAGEOUS. UNACCEPTABLE

  As one who has also been sexually abused, you said what I've been trying to find words for when you said  he destroyed the woman you were suppose to become. Only Jesus can fix this. Thank you so much for your courage and perseverance in seeing this through.

  My parents started a church in Ocean Shores Washington Faith Comunity Church . The pastor Jim Shiner knew my dad molested children in his church but did nothing to stop him & my dad gave him one of my parents homes to stay quiet. I spoke out often and was shut up threatened and lied about . KEEP SPEAKING TRUTH!!

  I am disgusted with how women who get raped, abused etc. get blamed still to this day.  I have my story and have also been blamed!  Men are supposed to protect young girls and women, especially men representing God!!!!!!! Shame on the abusers!  Glad the creep got caught and I hope he truly repents!!!

  Absolutely sickening! I'm 67 and still dealing with PTSD from being molested by several men at the same age as this woman was. I WAS blamed when I told years later!!
