  The wish entity absolutely is a separate victim. It's a newborn entity (whatever it is) that only has one job, and it's doing everything it can to accomplish that one job. It doesn't know right from wrong. It simply keeps doing its job until it no longer can.

  Wish Nikki breaks my heart. She’s brought in to this world for one purpose, and no matter how hard she tries, she’s always doing it wrong. And Bear is always telling her she’s doing it wrong. He never tells her how to do it right either. Her entire mission is to please a man who will never be pleased, and will never tell her that she’s doing good, doing enough.

  Freaky Nikki is also a victim because she&apos;s basically a new version of Nikki but without the freedom of self-agency. She&apos;s forced to live according to the rules of the wish which brings her a lot of distress and pain (physical pain mostly by the hands of Normal Nikki lol). It&apos;s clear upon rewatching the movie that she is relatively normal at first (unhinged but not evil) and doesn&apos;t become a &quot;monster&quot; until she is forced to take more extreme actions to try and win Bear&apos;s love. In my head, Freaky Nikki only comes apart once Bear starts to show signs that he is not okay with how she&apos;s acting and clearly not as into her as she is into him. <br><br>I&apos;m also obsessed with this movie. There is so much subtext as well as points in the movie where the audience is left just dying for a better outcome.

  <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Qato3LAr0k&amp;t=611">10:11</a> the “just be Niki” sequence was by far the most disturbing part of the entire movie for me. Because of the way they are both blatantly acknowledging the fact that. This woman is not really Niki, and they both know that.

  It is crazy that the two unnamed women in the film who only encounter Bear for one scene (the waitress and the magic store clerk) are the only two who have him the advice that would have possibly prevented this horror show. The waitress telling him to just shoot his shot and see how it goes with the implicit understanding that rejection is possible and the clerk who just straight up tells him that the people who use the One Wish Willow instead of keeping it as a collectors item always return to complain.

  The story seems weirdly close to Frankenstein, in a way. &nbsp;Guy creates newborn entity borne from his selfish desires, the entity turns out to be a creature with needs and not quite “right,” guy neglects and abuses entity, entity lashes out and kills innocent people in pain and confusion, guy dies in final confrontation but not directly by entity’s hands, entity dies/walks off into horizon forever. &nbsp;<br><br>Not the intended reading obviously, but pretty similar? There’s a common thread of men playing with Life/Love carelessly, fucking everything up, and being too cowardly to take responsibility until it’s far too late and people have already been hurt.

  I don’t think Sandy was even Bear’s cat, I think she was Bear’s grandma’s cat. Just like he inherited the house when she died he inherited the responsibility of taking care of Sandy. When the cat died it didn’t even seem like he was grieving the loss of the cat herself, but something that the cat related back to. I can’t imagine anyone being the reason their own cat overdosed and acting the way he did, unless they didn’t really see it as their pet to begin with.

  The story is even more tragic, if you view it from &quot;Wish-born&quot; Nikki&apos;s perspective. In some way, she&apos;s also a prisoner of the wish, because while not fighting against it, her will is also bound with this &apos;prime directive&apos; of loving Bear more than anyone in the world no matter what. During her short life:<br><br>- She was doing all she can for pleasing Bear, but suddenly it&apos;s not enough anymore. And she doesn&apos;t know why, so she pushes herself even harder, but for all of her love she can give in return she recieves nothing, except rejection. <br>- The harder she tries, the more person she loves is being freaked out, and THAT freaks HER out even more, so without much choice she tries to brush it off with excuses or hide it behind a smile, trying to comfort Bear, but all her stress and insecurity is not gone, it&apos;s still inside of her, slowly reaching it&apos;s critical mass. <br>- And let&apos;s not forget, that she has to deal with real Nikki, who&apos;s still trapped inside with her - the voice from her dreams, that is angry at Bear and possibly may hurt him, so &quot;Wish-born&quot; Nikki needs to supress her all the time in order to protect her loved one.<br>- When she was desperate, confused, literally on the knees in tears, crying for help, for some explanations, Bear is not helping her at all. He&apos;s freaked out again and telling her &quot;To be normal, to act like Nikki&quot;, but &quot;Wish-born&quot; can&apos;t understand that. According to her behaviour, she knows nothing about what &apos;normal&apos; means and from her point of view she&apos;s doing her best to act like Nikki. <br>- Not to mention, that so-called &quot;nice-guy-hopeless-romantic&quot; never even done the most trivial romantic thing like hugging her and telling something like &quot;It&apos;s ok, honey, everything&apos;s going to be allright, we&apos;ll figure it out together&quot;. I&apos;m not saying that this would fix anything, but at least it gives &quot;Wish-born&quot; Nikki some love in return. Instead, she has to deal with all her internal struggles on her own. Again. <br>- Near the end, after famous scene in the car, when she says &quot;You wished for it. And I`m so happy you did, babe.&quot; you can hear her voice trembling. My assumption is that she wasn&apos;t saying that to comfort Bear. Instead for the first time in her short life &quot;Wish-born&quot; was speaking for herself, because she finally found some twisted way to release all her stress and pain she was hiding, to feel some relief. With huge collateral damage.<br><br>In a way she&apos;s almost like Frankenstine&apos;s Creation in this story - lost and craving for love.

  I haven’t seen anyone talking about “freaky Nikki” as a nickname. She doesn’t like it. And her visceral reaction means it has negative connotations. I feel like something bad happened to her where she did not have consent and it was used against her. And feels like a nod to what will happen to her. Being taken advantage of against her will and be blamed for it. <br><br>Whether it’s a new entity or a piece of Nikki being compelled - it knows its only existence is to serve and to exist for Bear, and she knows he’s slipping away because he wanted an idea that never existed. She’s at his mercy. Because the more he falls out of love, and in love with another - against her will, she has to love him more; and she drifts further and further.

  Speaking as a man, it&apos;s actually completely incomprehensible to me how there are men out there who have ANY degree of sympathy for Bear. Even just from the clips in this video - he sits there while she injures herself in the party and people yell at him repeatedly to do something, he sits there in the car while she kills Sarah, his only concern is that she &quot;act like Nikki,&quot; he outright denies taking advantage of her even after knowing the wish has control over her, etc. I mean the dude is absolute pond scum.
